Show notes

In this episode, we explore the work of American educator Sam Crowell.

As a professor emeritus at California State University and founding faculty member of the MA in Education program focused on contemplative inquiry, Crowell has long been a voice for transformative, holistic education. His work is grounded in a deep trust in the potential of both teacher and learner, emphasizing imagination, intuition, and ethical awareness as essential elements of teaching and learning.

Sam Crowell has been a leading voice for transformative, holistic education. He has been closely involved with Earth Charter International for over 15 years—serving as faculty member and senior advisor—where he has integrated the Charter’s principles into education for sustainable development, guiding educators to bring its values of interconnection, universal responsibility, and ecological integrity into lived classroom practice

Sam Crowell invites us to see education as a soulful and meaningful practice — one rooted in wonder, connection, and the unpredictable nature of learning. What does it mean to be truly present as a teacher? How can we shape education as a process of becoming — of human formation? And what does this ask of us in an age of standardization and accelerating technologies?
