”Painting is not only the formal process of creating, but it is also the acknowledgment of the presence of the work, this inanimate object which will be observed. [… ] And I got this from Goethe. I read an essay — I must have been twenty-six — where he says that the object of an artist is to bring you into a garden and give you a journey and then that the artist also leads you out of the garden back to yourself. And I thought that’s right, that’s profound. So that I show you how to come into the painting and I show you how to come out of the painting, back to yourself .” — Jerry Zeniuk
